Sing On! Blackford High play

By: Kaitlin Miral

On Saturday, November 23-24, 2019 I had the opportunity to help with backstage work for the play Sing On! At first, I wasn’t sure about the idea and wanted to just leave that to my friends, but after my first time going I figured out that I really did enjoy helping out the cast and learning about people I would have never tried talking to if not for Theater. Throughout the whole process, I worked hard to try and learn what needed to be on set, what had to change, who would need help changing and such.

Although during the rehearsal days most of the time backstage

would just run around and help keep the

actors on track but mainly help with props

and running to get things if they were needed.

One of the biggest thing the backstage staff

had to do was open and shut curtains when the

scene changed or when the play began, yes

anyone could have done this but if everyone had

to be on stage then it was hard for anyone to get

into places on time, especially with all the outfit

changes. Another big part of being backstage was

helping to change the whole set during act 2, which was switching walls and creating the illusion of a throne room.

Overall, even though I didn’t do much I still enjoyed helping out and would do it again if I had the chance.  The cast and group of people I got to hang out with are amazing and I am so thankful I had the opportunity to help out and hopefully helped make the shows more bearable.

The amount of crazy and wacky photos I was able to capture was ridiculous. Great times in theater for sure.
