Halo Finally Comes To PC

As of March 12th, 2019, 343 has announced that Halo: The Master Chief Collection (MCC for short) will be ported onto Windows 10 computers and the Steam game store. The MCC was launched for the Xbox One on November 11th, 2014, but the multiplayer aspect didn’t work at launch. You could cook a pizza in the time it took to find a game, playing it was a different story, as levels would often crash as you were playing or even waiting to start. An update was released in 2018 to fix these issues for the most part but the damage was already done and many players left the game. With Updates still coming out to make the game seem fresh it’s safe to say that the MCC is making a recovery in population size as well as community participation in events, the most recent being “The Yapening” was Halo Wars 2’s Banished grunt leader Yapyap the Destroyer messes with the games coding (the same kind of event happened in 2018 in Halo Wars 2).
What happened was that users on Halo Waypoint were spamming the developers with messages saying that “if you announce the MCC on PC, we will send you a bunch of pizza”. Since the announcement 343 has been aggressively advertising the game with an interview was a 343 employee was answering questions about the PC port while munching on a slice of pizza. And if you’ve logged onto Halo 5 any time after this interview you must have noticed that you’ve received a Pizza req pack which gave you a pizza emblem and a pizza skin for your assault rifle. 343 have also celebrated by hosting the South by Southeast Halo 3 tournament at RTX in Austin Texas, where teams of 2 compete to win bragging rights. They also decided to launch another Insider program for those interested in testing early versions of the port before release. All you have to do is sign up, confirm that you are over 18, and input your computer’s max settings to participate in order to make sure it all runs smoothly, so unfortunately since I’m 17 I can’t participate and bring you guys more news on this. The Insider program is like a Beta for early builds of a game only people are now avoiding those because of games like Fortnite, which has been in open beta since 2016 and hasn’t been fully released since, or Call of Duty which is more of a glorified Demo that doesn’t fix any of the issues in the beta.
One more thing I need to explain before I get into the nitty-gritty of some the features this port will have to offer. The MCC launched with 4 games along with their multiplayer, these games include Halo: Combat Evolved, and Halo 2, 3, and 4. Since the MCC’s multiplayer was barely functional 343 added Halo 3: ODST (Orbital Drop Shock Trooper) as an apology for free but later went up in price by $3, and on top of that didn’t come with the Firefight it launched with. Well with the MCC coming to the PC, 343 is also bringing a fan favorite game to the MCC from 2010, you’ll never guess what it is (give up yet[?] it’s Halo: Reach). For those who are thinking of purchasing the MCC or already own a copy of the game, Halo: Reach’s multiplayer will come for free, that means matchmaking, forge, and custom games you don’t have to spend a dime on, but you’re going to have to cough up a few bucks to play Firefight or Campaign. Halo: Reach will also give you the customization from the original release back in 2010, as well as export all your forge maps and achievements from the 360 game, but you’ll have to start over with unlocking armor pieces, firefight voices, and replay the campaign.
Since the MCC is coming to Windows 10 PC’s and Steam (for Windows 7 users) this opens up so many possibilities for modding and the community getting creative. By the way, remember my first article talking about Halo: Online’s cease and desist? Well, El Dorado who was responsible for that masterpiece was brought on board to help with the modding feature for the Steam workshop, but that won’t be launched until long after each Halo game is on PC. Imagine the possibilities for what the community can make, custom campaign levels were you play in the enemies perspective, adding NPCs to online and already massive game modes such as Reach’s Invasion game mode where one team plays as the Covenant, the other plays as the UNSC (United Nations Space Command), or adding new weapons and vehicles to the game. The possibilities are endless, it all boils down to what you can think of and if you’re good with computers and coding. 343 also needed some more help with this, not just from the fans and El Dorado, but since the rest of the company is working on Halo: Infinite they’ve hired other companies to help out on the project. The companies that are helping 343 with this is Ruffian Games which developed Crackdown 2 for the Xbox 360, and Splash Damage studios responsible for BRINK and Batman: Arkham Origins.
In conclusion, 343 is really taking their time with this project making sure everything runs right, and releasing each game in chronological order, that means Reach comes first, then Halo: CE, Halo 2, 3, 3 ODST, and 4.
