What it’s like in JROTC and Raiders.

January 28, 2019

My brother is in JROTC and the Raiders, so I got curious about his opinions about the programs. So in a Q&A style here is what Michael Anderson thinks about JROTC/Raiders.

Q: What exactly is JROTC/Raiders?
A: In Raiders we just work out and learn things for our next competition, and JROTC is to help you be a better citizen.

Q: If you could describe JROTC/Raiders in 5 words or less, how would you describe it?
A: Raiders: excellent workout. JROTC: excellent discipline.

Q: What made you want to join JROTC/Raiders?
A: I want to join the marines and JROTC is just what I need to get fit first.

Q: What are some of the activities that you do in JROTC/Raiders?
A: JROTC: We have “Mondays Marching” for discipline, and for Tuesday and Friday we have PT, Wednesdays and Thursdays we have a class day to learn about rankings, cadet creed, and other things. Raiders: We just review things we need for the next competition, and work out for that too.

Q: What are some of the challenges you face during these activities?
A: Well for me wanting to go into the Marine Corps. I had some friends, who we all kind of pushed each other past our limits, me especially, and the major and master sergeant help out with that aspect too so maybe everything.

Q: What is your least favorite activity?
A: None, their all great.

Q:What is the difficult challenge you face during JROTC/Raiders?
A: Maybe running a mile, because I’m still not used to it.

Q:What is your favorite aspect of JROTC/Raiders?
A: The discipline and life lessons it gives you, and how they try to push you beyond your limits to achieve success in a way.

Q: If you could change one thing about JROTC/Raiders what would you change?
A: Nothing, it’s great the way it is.

Q: Where do you see yourself after you’re done with JROTC/Raiders?
A: I can see myself in either “YouTubing” or in the Marine Corps.

Q: What kinds of things do you learn in JROTC/Raiders?
A: Knots to tie, rankings, phonetic alphabet, military time, the cadet creed, and best of all discipline

Q: How does an average day in JROTC/Raiders go?
A: I get to the classroom at the beginning and wait for the major, or the “let’s 4’s” to say what we are doing for the day.

Q: Where do you see JROTC/Raiders in 10 years?
A: the same old way it is, just with different staff members and cadets.

And there you have it, the opinions of JROTC and Raiders voiced by my brother, who only has half a years experience. If you’re thinking about joining JROTC and (optional) Raiders then keep this article in mind and decide for yourself.
