Confederate Flag: Racist or History????

The Confederate flag as we know it was born not as a symbol, but as a very practical banner. A lot of people will say that the flag means something political. For example, the American flag means freedom and home of the brave. According to a article called “The Truth About Confederate History: Part 1,” it states facts and gives a good detail history article about the Confederate flag and its history. It also proves that a lot of people believes it stands for heritage not hate. The flag, as a lot of people knew it back in the days of the Civil War, that name properly belongs to the first national flag of the Confederacy. The flag back then meant slavery and oppression. But now in the world of 2018, all it means is southern pride and heritage.

The symbolism of the flag is simple and straightforward. Back in March 1861, the flag was actually first called “The Stars And Bars” flag. A lot of people think that only southern people think it means southern pride. Most people will say that it means slavery, it’s a form of racism, and that everybody wants to have slavery back. Now, in my opinion, I feel like the flag means southern pride and it’s only going to be a piece of American history.

I just feel like people need to do more research into the flag, read all about it, and let the facts and the history change their minds. If you have interest in the flag, it will most likely bring you into contact with people who have a strong emotional connection with the flag. At some point in your life, you will be aware that not everyone shares the same opinion of the Confederate flag. Also according to the snoops article called “The Truth About Confederate History: Part 1,” it states that the flag means that it is also a battle flag, nothing else.

Many people will understand that the flag has it’s history and many people have their own opinion about it. Based on The Confederate Battle Flag today finds itself in the center of much controversy and hoopla going on in several states. The cry to take this flag down is unjustified. It is very important to keep in mind that the Confederate Battle Flag was simply just that. A battle flag. It was never even a National flag, so how could it have flown over a slave nation or represented slavery or racism? This myth is continued by lack of education and ignorance. Those that vilify the Confederate Battle Flag are very confused about history and have jumped upon a bandwagon with loose wheels.” What the flag means to me is that the flag is an American piece of history that will never be forgotten.

Also based off of the snoops article, it statesIt is true that for several decades after the Civil War, the Confederate battle flag was not widely perceived as a negative symbol. Its use was largely limited to historical ceremonies associated with veterans events and war memorials. the flag did not become the symbol most prominently associated with the Confederacy until several decades after the Civil War ended, and it was not widely perceived as a politically polarizing symbol until it was appropriated by segregationist politicians and groups in the middle of the twentieth century.” In conclusion, my overall opinion is that all the Confederate flag means American history and southern pride.
